The Battlehawks are saying farewell to another member of their 2023 season. After an All-XFL season as a Kick Returner, while also earning XFL Special Teams Player of the Year honors the former North Dakota State Wide Receiver will be joining Justin Herbert and the LA Chargers for his 7th opportunity with an NFL team.
While Shepherd was constantly praised for his special teams prowess, the Missouri Native was also among the league’s top Wide Receivers. His 48 Receptions, 519 Receiving Yards and 6 Touchdowns were all in the Top 7 of statistical categories for the XFL. Shepherd also added an additional 907 Kick Return Yards bringing his overall yardage to 1426 in 2023.
Shepherd’s success is nothing new if you’ve been following Alt Football. In 2022 he played for the New Jersey Generals putting together another successful Alt-Football campaign of 27 Receptions 323 Receiving Yards and 1 Touchdown which led to an opportunity with the Denver Broncos where he was a member of the Broncos practice squad until October 11th.
Shepherd becomes the 25th XFL player to earn an NFL contract after the 2023 season. So far only Brahmas RB Jacques Patrick has been released as the OTA’s for NFL teams get underway. The Battlehawks have had Five players earn NFL contracts, at the time of Shepherd’s signing.
