The Carolina Panthers announced yesterday that they have signed the Former DC Defenders LB Jonathan Celestin.
Celestin was previously with the team in 2019 before joining the Defenders for the pandemic-shortened 2020 XFL season.
In the 5 games the league played Celestin gained 32 total tackles, including 3 for loss, and a fumble recovery that was returned for a TD in Week 1 vs the Seattle Dragons.
In his senior season with the University of Minnesota, Celestin finished 2nd in his team with 78 tackles and 5.5 behind the line of scrimmage. He went undrafted in the 2018 NFL draft, but has spent time with the Falcons, Chargers and Jets.
He was to signed with the Massachusetts Pirates IFL team this season, who has a roster that includes former XFL talent like RB Justin Stockton, WR Dontez Byrd, and DL Toby Johnson, but chose not take part, and continue his path of trying to get back to the NFL.
We wish him all the luck in this year’s camp, and hope he makes the final roster.
