Cardale Jones appears to all but is officially confirmed to be rejoining the XFL for the 2023 season. It was not even two weeks that the XFL held their final showcase in Arlington, Texas, at Choctaw Stadium, where we found out afterward from XFL social media photos that Cardale Jones was in attendance trying out.
Just today on Twitter, Cardale Jones is teasing a return to football in Spring ’23. Conveniently enough, the XFL’s official Twitter account replied to his post after posting this.
Based on this, it appears Cardale will for sure be part of the XFL when it returns in 2023, and oddly enough for Cardale, it will be his first return to football as well, as he will be making his return to professional football since he last played for the D.C. Defenders during the 2020 season.
Cardale himself looks in fantastic shape based on the photo from the XFL showcase and looks ready to go based on his recent time at Ohio State pro-day back in March, which was reported by our own Sam Just.
Cardale Jones, who previously won a National Championship with the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2014, in just his third start as a redshirt sophomore, made an instant impact leading the Defenders 2-0 in the first two weeks. Tyree Jackson became more efficient as the games went on. Despite starting all five games for the Defenders, we do not know what would have happened in the past week five of the XFL for Cardale, but we may see that second chance. It may very well be in D.C. with new head coach Reggie Barlow.
This second chance for Cardale in XFL 3.0 could open many doors for Cardale if he can perform well, and anyone who has followed Cardale’s career over the past 9 years knows what he did for Ohio State and started with the Defenders could be promising. Instead, it is Reggie Barlow with the Washington team that takes an interest in Cardale and brings him back to D.C. or not; it will be interesting to see Cardale suit up again for the XFL in 2023 and possibly with a different team together.
Cardale Jones’s record in 2020 with the Defenders was 61 completions out of 113 attempts, for 674 yards with 4 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He did start in all five of the games the Defenders played and will look to come back to restore his career; while Pep Hamilton was a great leader for Cardale, he could maybe paired up with a head coach with a ton of experience from the NFL that could lead him to a promising career in the XFL.
