BREAKING: According to Konnor Fulk of XFL News Hub, The XFL has been suspended indefinitely due to COVID-19.

No official announcement from the league has been made yet. Players and coaches are in the process of being notified as we speak.

With states restricting crowds to 250 people, plus player, coaches, and staff safety. Vince McMahon and Oliver Luck really had no choice.

UPDATE FROM THE XFL

Currently, the XFL will not be playing its regular-season games. However, all players will be paid their base pay and benefits for the 2020 regular season. All XFL ticket holders will be issued refunds or credit toward future games. The XFL is committed to playing a full season in 2021 and future years.

This was the right move to make. I realize the XFL was in a tougher spot than the other leagues were because it will be nearly impossible for them to come back from this. But they couldn’t keep on going when all the other sports leagues were cancelling the remainder of their seasons.

At some point some other spring league will come around and try this again.

They will come back back easily from this. Vince put enough money into the league for 3 years, the attendance was good to great (for some teams) and most importantly, the ratings were good. They’ll be back.

No it will be very challenging for them to come back from this as it will be difficult to regain an audience for a season 2 when they weren’t even able to finish the first season. That to go along with the fact that none of the stations would likely be very excited about televising a season 2 when the league saw pretty significant drops each week it aired games. THe writers on this site were starting to have to put quite a bit of spin in their articles in order to make the ratings decline look good in recent weeks.

You can’t spin the ratings to make them look good. Yes they were declining, but they were still all over a million views minus this past week’s Sunday games, which the matchups weren’t intriguing. Weeks 1-5(minus Sunday) they were getting numbers that were comparable and beating out the likes of the NCAA, NBA, NHL, MLS, PGA and the NFL combine. Those are good ratings and there’s nothing else that those networks could air which would do exponentially better than the XFL.

There was a huge amount of spin going on. People were trying to compare the XFL’s ratings to leagues that had already been established and had found their audience. THe XFL had yet to do either of those. And if the ratings were barely over a million and continuing to drop five weeks into the leagues inaugural season chances would be extremely good they would be even lower if it tried to come back for a season 2. THe networks aren’t going to be excited at all to air XFL games if it does come back for a season 2 when they know the ratings never managed to stabilize during season 1.

Yesterday on the XFL website, it reported that the LA Wildcats vs Seattle Dragons game which was to be played in Seattle on Sunday would be played in an empty stadium due to the proclamation made by the governor of the state of Washington. The XFL website states that single-tickets purchased for the game would be refunded directly by Ticketmaster in 7-10 days. I would imagine this will be the case for ALL XFL games, so we should get a refund. I had tickets for the 3/2 game, too, and am so very disappointed that we won’t get to go to that game. It would have been something to be there along with 35,000 Battlehawks fans.

That’s great, I think we should all hide in our homes and wait things out. COME ON PEOPLE, 34 fatalities in US in over a week and we turn into sheep. Awful decision if its true, XFL won’t survive if the cancel

I’m disappointed that the league is ending its season, but I’m hopeful for another season. I was entertained enough that I’m thinking of getting season tickets for the Dragons next year

This is idiotic! The whole thing is so ober blown by the media it is tragic. But you gotta make up a lot of news to fill 24 hrs a day. 7 days a week. I’m so done with there spin. The numbers affected don’t support panic they are causing by featuring such small numbers all day everyday.

I sure am disappointed, but they got their hooks in me. I’ll be back for season 2 more excited to watch then ever. Hopefully they start dumping merchandise on the cheap!

I fully expect to see the league lose it’s biggest stars to the NFL, so I hope the Roughnecks are awarded some sort Championship because they earned it and may never get another great chance at gold once they’ve moved on.
