Brahmas Make Trade With Sea Dragons, Release 9 Players

The San Antonio Brahmas are hard at work finalizing their roster ahead of their season opener on February 19. On Sunday, they made a flurry of moves, including a trade.

First, the Brahmas released nine players. The team needs to get their roster down to 51 by February 10, and this looks to be the beginning of that process. The Brahmas released the following players:

  • WR Devin Ross
  • TE Marcus Santos-Silva
  • OL Nathaniel Hines
  • OL Darius James
  • DL Denzel Chulwukelu
  • LB Jordan Anthony
  • LB Chase Pine
  • OL Malcolm Bunche
  • DB Cedric Stone

Next, the Brahmas acquired tight end Ben Beise from the Seattle Sea Dragons, the XFL confirmed. In return, the Brahmas sent running back Moe Neal to the Sea Dragons.

Beise played collegiate at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. He was a Division III All-American for the Falcons in 2021 while playing tight end and fullback. He caught 38 passes for 358 yards and a touchdown his senior season.

Wisconsin River Falls also used Beise to throw passes on rare occasions. He threw two passes in his collegiate career, with one being picked off and another going for a 38-yard completion.

Beise entered the 2022 NFL Draft, going undrafted. After the draft, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Beise was released by the Bucs in August of last year.

Neal joined the Brahmas last month for training camp. He played collegiately at Syracuse, where he finished his career ninth in school history for rushing yards.

Neal’s final two seasons with the Orange were his most productive. He rushed for over 800 yards in both seasons. He rushed for a career-high seven touchdowns in his final seasons.

Despite his college production, Neal hasn’t received a shot in professional football. His first taste of pro ball will come with the Sea Dragons when they kick off their season on February 19.

After all of these moves, the Brahmas roster sits at 63. They have until the 10th to cut that number down to 51, meaning head coach Hines Ward has some tough decisions to make in the week ahead.
