Battlehawks Place Jaylen Smith on Reserve List

In preparation for the final cuts of training camp, the Battlehawks place Jaylen Smith on the team’s reserve list late Wednesday night. Placing Smith on the reserve list was the Battlehawks second transaction this week before a busy Thursday, as the team released Ryan Willis earlier in the week. While it’s unknown Smith’s status, Willis was signed to the Memphis Showboats of the USFL.

Smith was one of Lamar Jackson’s favorite targets at Louisville. A true tweener between Wide Receiver and Tight End, Smith was in position breakout in the XFL this season. Smith has spent time in his career with the Ravens, Argonauts, Patriots, and most recently the Seahawks for two days before rejoining the Battlehawks in November. Smith was drafted by the Battlehawks with the 18 overall pick during the Offensive Skill position phase in November.

The Battlehawks now have a Tight End room with AAF/TSL vet Jevoni Robinson, AAF/XFL vet Jake Sutherland, JoVani Haskins, and NFL vet Jordan Thomas going into week one. With a dynamic offense led by AJ McCarron, the Battlehawks are still a dangerous offensive team moving forward, with plenty of dynamic weapons who are true rookies and veterans of the NFL and other Alt-Football Leagues. With teams scheduled to continue cuts the Battlehawks who are currently at 69 players after placing Smith on the reserve list, needing to cut 18 more players on Thursday.
