Arlington Renegades Cuts Breakdown
Probably the biggest name that did not make it to the 70-player roster was defensive back, Robert Nelson. Based on his XFL and NFL experience, Nelson was seen as someone who could come in and make an immediate impact in the secondary. He might be a target for some teams to add to their rosters.
Another notable name cut from the team was linebacker Jessie Lemonier. Another example of a player who previously played in the NFL and was also a part of the USFL last season. It was an already uphill battle for Lemonier as the linebacker position is deep with Nick Temple, Ryan Mueller, and Donald Payne highlighting the position.
The position that saw the most cut downs was the defensive back position where three players were cut from the position. Arlington still has 14 players in the secondary for training camp. Arlington still has plenty of players on the offensive side of the ball as they only saw four of the players cut. The team decided to only cut one wide receiver which leaves them with ten receivers. While one tight end was also cut, they still have five tight ends on the roster fighting for at least two or three spots.
Most fans can expect the receiver and defensive back positions to see more players being released from the roster. Coach Bob Stoops and the staff have already established that veterans are not guaranteed a spot on the team. Fans will have to wait and see what other surprise cuts are to come for the team.
