It’s been quite a journey for Long Snapper Nick Moore to get to this point in his NFL Career. After being selected in the 30th round of the MLB draft and playing minor league baseball for four years the 30-year Georgia native probably never thought that he’d be playing in the NFL much less being named an All-Pro. But after a minor league baseball career, four years at UGA, a failed training camp with the Saints, and five games in the XFL, Nick Moore’s hard work was recognized, as he was named to the NFL’s second team All-Pro squad.
At 22 years old, Moore walked onto UGA as a snapper despite playing Safety and Wide Receiver in HS. Despite snapping for the Bulldogs for four years and appearing in 23 collegiate games Moore was undrafted in 2019 and would sign with the Saints. He’d find himself unemployed at the end of training camp and worked as a financial accountant before getting picked up by the XFL.
The All-Pro like many specialists utilized an alt-league to gain more film and work on his craft, after a successful stint in the XFL Moore earned an opportunity with the Ravens and hasn’t looked back since. Moore’s route to the award isn’t unlike many specialists. He’s one of three long snappers with XFL ties, and one of six alt-leaguers to play the position in 2022. Since replacing former Raven Morgan Cox in 2020 due to Cox being placed on COVID reserve, Moore took the job from in 2021 and appeared in 34 straight games since, and at one point was a leading in Pro-Bowl votes for Long Snapper.
Moore joins specialist like Matt Overton, Graham Gano, and Younghoe Koo as specialist who used Alt-Leagues to solidify their NFL careers and in-turn would earn post season accolades. Moore has been a part of a special team’s battery that can be argued to be one of the most elite in the NFL, spearheaded by Justin Tucker. Despite all the success of Tucker it’s clear that it all starts with Nick Moore the former Red Sox prospect who now finds himself as one of the NFL’s elite Long Snappers that got his chance in the XFL.
