We will finally get official word on the USFL playing its games in Birmingham Alabama. The league plans to play all its games in the city for the 2022 season. From Jon Paepcke of WVTM13.
“BREAKING: @USFL set to make an announcement at Birmingham’s @ProtectiveStdm next Tuesday at 10:30am. Sources have said for months the city would host all of the games in the league’s new spring season. We were just waiting on the official announcement. Wait is almost over.”
This has been a long process to get finalized. Lots of moving parts, lawyers, and approvals were needed to make it happen. We have chronicled the ongoing talks since October. Jefferson County Commission, The Greater Birmingham Convention, and Visitors Bureau board were all involved in the negotiations and funding agreement.
