The Spring League Generals’ roster was recently released. Let’s take a look at who the defending champs are going with on this years team.
Quarterback
Ryan Mallett(Arkansas) – Mallett started his college career at Michigan and then transferred to Arkansas and over that time he threw for 8,385 yards and 69 touchdowns. He was then drafted in the third round by the New England Patriots and went on to play for the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens. The strong arm QB is looking to prove himself this season and lead the Generals to another championship.
Case Cookus(Northern Arizona) – Cookus played his college ball at Northern Arizona where he earned a lot of national recognition with a plethora of awards, and being placed on many national watch lists. He threw for 12,082 yards and 105 touchdowns, while only throwing 21 interceptions in his four years at Northern Arizona.
Running Back
Darnell Holland(Kennesaw State) – Holland played his college ball at Kennesaw State where he was able to rush for over 2,000 yards on only 244 attempts and score 26 touchdowns. Holland was then selected by the Dallas Renegades in the fall of 2019 in phase 5 of the XFL draft.
Chris James(Pittsburg/Wisconsin) – James began his career at Pittsburgh where he was able to rush for over 600 yards and 4 touchdowns in two seasons. He then transferred to Wisconsin, where he totaled 341 rush yards and 1 touchdown on 74 attempts in his two seasons with the Badgers.
Paul Terry(Eastern New Mexico)- At Eastern New Mexico, Terry was able to rush for 3,525 yards and 32 touchdowns on 644 attempts in his four years with the Greyhounds. At 5’9″ 200 pounds, Terry looks to be a physical and downhill runner this year for the Generals.
Wide Receiver
Siaosi Mariner(Utah State) – Mariner started his college career with the Utah Utes, where he was able to accumulate 392 receiving yards on 32 receptions in his 2 seasons there. He then transferred to Utah State where he totaled 987 receiving yards on 63 receptions in his one season with the Aggies. He was briefly with the Oakland Raiders but cut shortly after passing his physical.
Melvin Vaughn(Old Dominion) – Vaughn played his college ball at Old Dominion where he played both wide receiver and tight end. He totaled 902 yards on 85 receptions in his college career, and he brings some versatility to the Generals with his ability to play tight end at 6’2″ 233 pounds.
Devin Gray(Cincinnati) – Gray played two seasons with the Cincinnati Bearcats. In those two seasons he was able to total 1,304 receiving yards on 86 receptions, leading to 8 touchdowns.
Jordan Suell(Southern Oregon) – Suell played his college ball at Southern Oregon where he was able to total 834 receiving yards on 42 receptions, which led to 12 touchdowns. At 6’6″ Suell looks to bring size and explosiveness to the Generals.
Spencer Tears(Northern Illinois) – In four seasons with the Huskies Tears was able to total 1,323 receiving yards on 107 receptions, which led to 10 touchdowns.
Tight End
Sal Cannella(Auburn) – At 6’5″ 228 pounds, Canella played 3 seasons for the Auburn Tigers. While at Auburn he was able to total 330 receiving yards on 25 receptions, which led to 5 touchdowns.
Raymond Epps(Arizona State/SMU) – Epps started his college career at Arizona State where he was able to total 65 receiving yards on 5 receptions, and 2 touchdowns. Epps then transferred to Southern Methodist where he played one season and caught one pass for 17 yards and a touchdown. At 6’4″ 248, Epps looks to be very physical and can be a good blocker in the run game.
Offensive Line
Sean Brown(Mississippi Valley State) – At 6’4″ 325 pounds, Brown is a mobile and versatile offensive lineman. He played two seasons at Mississippi Valley State, which led to him playing a year in the XFL for the Los Angeles Wildcats. He will looking to solidify the interior of the Generals offensive line playing guard.
Paul Nosworthy(Buffalo) – Nosworthy is a 6’4″ 300 pound interior offensive lineman. He played for three seasons at Buffalo after transferring from Grambling State. While at Buffalo he was named All-MAC second team, and looks to help solidify the Generals offensive line.
Joseph Park(South Carolina) – Joseph Park, who also goes by D.J., played four seasons at South Carolina. While at South Carolina Park made appearances at right tackle, but was primarily a very big player on the special teams units. At 6’4″ 337 pounds, Park looks to anchor down the right side of the Generals offensive line.
Jordan Murray(North Texas) – Murray is a 6’9″ offensive tackle that played is college ball at North Texas. He played four seasons at North Texas and then attended the mini camp of the Seattle Seahawks in 2019. At 6’9″ Murray naturally has a lot of length, and will look to protect the quarterback’s blind side playing left tackle for the Generals.
Jaylen Flye-Sadler(Lindenwood) – Flye-Sadler began his college career at Austin Peay where he played offensive tackle and played in a total of 15 games. He then transferred to Lindenwood where he played in 23 games over two seasons there. Flye-Sadler is another long offensive tackle that will compete to earn a staring spot at tackle on the Generals offensive line.
Sam Dervil(Eastern Michigan) – Dervil is a 6’5″ guard that played his college ball at Eastern Michigan University. While playing for the Eagles he played in 28 total games over three seasons. Dervil is another interior offensive lineman that will look to compete for a starting spot on the Generals offensive line.
Evin Ksiezarczyk(Buffalo) – Ksiezarczyk is another offensive tackle, and he played his college ball at Buffalo. While at Buffalo he played in 50 games, 39 of those games he started at left tackle. He earned All-MAC second team honors his junior year and All-MAC first team honors his senior year. Ksiezarczyk will make the competition at tackle for the generals very interesting as they have a lot of talent on this offensive line.
Defensive Line
Michael Scott(Oklahoma State) – Scott started his college career at SMU where he played in four games. He then transferred to Trinity Valley Community College, which led him to transfer to Oklahoma State. While playing for the Cowboys he played in 25 games over two seasons and was credited with 4.5 sacks.
Howard Stephens(Shorter) – Stephens played his college ball at Shorter and played all four seasons there. In his time at Shorter he played in 41 games. Over those 41 games Stephens totaled 146 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks. He also had 3 pass deflection, 1 forced fumble, and 2 fumble recoveries.
Andre Bird-Pierre(Graceland) – Bird-Pierre is a 6’4″ 280 pound defensive end. He played his college ball at Graceland. Bird-Pierre played two seasons at Graceland where he was a disruptor on their defensive line.
Ethan Westbrooks(West Texas A&M) – Westbrooks is a defensive tackle that played his college ball at West Texas A&M. While at West Texas A&M, Westbrooks played one season totaling 43 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and 7 sacks. Westbrooks went undrafted and was picked up by the Los Angeles Rams where he was able to earn a spot on the 53-man roster for the 2014 season.
Carroll Phillips(Illinois) – Phillips is a defensive end that played three seasons at Illinois. While in college he was able to total 88 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks. Phillips was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017. He also had brief stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Washington Football Team, and Atlanta Falcons.
Kamilo Tongamoa(Iowa State) – Tongamoa started his college career at Merced College prior to attending Iowa State. He chose between Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Colorado, Texas, and Oregon. While at Iowa State he played two seasons and saw action in 13 games where he had 3 total tackles and 1 tackle for loss.
Kevin Murphy(Louisiana Tech/UConn) – Murphy started his college career at UConn where he played three seasons. In those three seasons he totaled 32 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and half a sack. Then Murphy transferred to Louisiana Tech to finish out his college career. While at LA Tech he totaled 13 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.
Linebacker
Blair Brown(Ohio) – Brown played his college ball at Ohio University. While at Ohio he accumulated 128 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. Brown was then drafted in 2017 in the fifth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played 28 games for the Jaguars before being released in 2019.
Josh Banderas(Nebraska) – Banderas played two seasons at Nebraska. While there he totaled 154 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and half a sack. He also earned team captain honors at Nebraska. Banderas then had stints with the Denver Broncos in the NFL and the Edmonton Football Team in the CFL.
D’Darrin Primes(Panhandle State) – Primes played two seasons at Oklahoma Panhandle State. Primes is a 5’11” 210 pound inside linebacker. While at Panhandle State Primes was a part of a 6-5 record his first season, and a 3-7 record his second season.
Antonio Wabanimkee(William Jewell) – Wabanimkee played two seasons at William Jewell College. In his two seasons he totaled 129 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. He also was credited with 2 interceptions, 2 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles.
Armani Linton(Ole Miss) – Linton played college ball at Ole Miss. At Ole Miss he played safety, but with his 6’2″ 233 pound frame he is making the transition to linebacker. He played four seasons at Ole Miss where he totaled 32 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. He also had 3 pass breakups.
Bailey Laolagi(UNLV) – Laolagi played all four seasons of his college football career at UNLV. While at UNLV he played in 42 games totaling 160 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. He was also credited with 4 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.
Defensive Back
CJ Jones(Henderson State) – Jones started his college career at Southern Oregon University. While at Southern Oregon he had 52 tackles and 3 pass breakups. Then at Henderson State, Jones played one season totaling 55 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 3 pass breakups, and 1 interception.
Brandon Mayes(Northern Illinois) – Mayes played three total seasons at Northern Illinois. While at NIU Mayes played in 40 games. In those 40 games he totaled 187 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 5 interceptions, 14 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.
Nevelle Clarke(UCF) – Clarke played four seasons at the University of Central Florida. Clarke played in 41 games. In those 41 games he totaled 108 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 5 interceptions, 34 pass breakups, and 1 fumble recovery.
Amani Dennis(Carthage) – Dennis played three seasons at Carthage. In those three seasons Dennis played in 29 games. In those 29 games he totaled 100 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 11 interceptions, 33 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.
Evan Worthington(Colorado) – Worthington played four seasons at Colorado. In those four seasons Worthington played in 45 games. In those 45 games he totaled 164 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 4 interception, 15 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.
Malik Gant(Marshall) – Gant played his college ball at Marshall. While playing for the Thundering Herd he played in 12 games in 2018. During the 2018 season Gant was able to total 89 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, and 8 pass breakups.
Rashad Robinson(James Madison) – Robinson played four seasons at James Madison. In those four seasons Robinson played in 52 games. In those 52 games he was able to total 155 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 13 interceptions, 39 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries.
Special Teams
Lirim Hajrullahu(Western Ontario) – Harjullahu is the place kicker for the Generals. He has played with many different professional teams. These teams include the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL. He has also played for the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers in the NFL.
Billy Caughell(Richmond) – Caughell looks to be the longsnapper for the Generals. He played his college ball at Richmond where he played linebacker. At Richmond he totaled 149 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 1 interception, 1 breakup, 4 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries.
