New Jersey Generals Grab First Win of Season

The re-booted USFL is up and running, and it’s garnering great excitement from fans. The teams have now played the first game of 10 in the regular season. And some, like New Jersey Generals, have completed their second game as well.

Fans of the Generals will be delighted with the latest result, a win against Michigan Panthers, after the disappointment of an opening game loss against Birmingham Stallions. There has also been an increased volume of sports bets being done now after the legalization in New Jersey and other states. There is an array of options to choose from, we were able to find a full list from here with all the legal sportsbooks currently in New Jersey, and they are probably bound to see significant action from Generals supporters who are feeling positive after the victory.

Taking a closer look at the result against the Panthers shows us whether this positivity is truly justified.

Triumph over Michigan Panthers

The 10-6 defeat of the Panthers by the Generals was not the most offensively sparkling display. But there was plenty to be positive about. The two-quarterback system employed by The Generals was successful with Luis Perez the leading passer.

The Generals’ quarterback completed 13 of 19 passes for 97 yards and one interception. De’Andre Johnson was already the leading rusher in the USFL and added a further 27 yards to last week’s 98 this time out.

In contrast, Panthers’ Shea Patterson did not have the greatest of games. He completed 14 of 29 passes for 124 yards. 74 of these yards came in the last drive by Panthers which is one part of the game that will have given some confidence to the Michigan team.

In truth, both teams will be pleased with the performance of their defense. In the case of the Panthers, it was a second-quarter interception that led to them scoring. Whereas, for the Generals, the overall tough display by the defense was impressive.

So, Generals fans certainly have reason to be optimistic following the win.

Philadelphia Stars next up for the Generals

The next game for the Generals is against Philadelphia Stars at 8pm ET on May 1, 2022. At time of writing, the Stars have only played one game in their campaign so far. This encounter ended with a loss against the New Orleans Breakers.

It was a fairly substantial defeat, with the Breakers triumphing 23-17. In truth, the Stars made too many errors for there to have been any other result, including missing two field goals. The Philadelphia team needs to improve on game stats of two turnovers and 3.9 yards per play average if they are to achieve better results going forward.

The Generals will be hoping that this does not happen with the team from New Jersey looking to expand on their winning streak. Fans will be waiting in anticipation until the next game on 1 May when they will want to see their team progressing further with a valuable win against Philadelphia Stars.
