The second season of Fan Controlled Football league brought us a number of exciting moments that generated interest in the league and gave us headlines. A Heisman winner and a Hall-Of-Famer making the list is no surprise. Here’s a recap of all the best moments for you to enjoy.
Coming in at the number 10 spot, is no surprise with Johnny Manziel’s first touchdown. The legend that is Johnny Football brought his talents to the FCF, joining a Zappers club that never lacks flash. A 26-yard pass to All-World wide receiver Terrell Owens set them up on the goal line. Manziel then executed a flawless read-option, leaving the contain defender in his tracks. Manziel gave Zappers and Texas A&M Aggie fans everywhere a taste of what they always knew was there.
Up next we have ‘The Unstoppable Thor’. Joe Grogan for Bored Ape Football Club. The defensive lineman/tight end was slotted at halfback on this particular play. The 6’3″ 270 lb. force was given a designed handoff on 4th & 1. Grogan dragged several 8oki defenders past the line and into the wall. What makes it all the more impressive is that he was met at the line of scrimmage by the defensive tackle.
The Should Have Been Stars made sure to make this list with everyone’s favorite sight on the gridiron, a big man touchdown. Burlington Jones was lined up as an offset tight end from an unbalanced line and a tight run look, slipped up the seam unguarded for a touchdown. He immediately hit the griddy to perfection, and his fellow big men joined him in the celebration.
In the playoff game between 8oki and Bored Ape FC, 8oki and quarterback Mitch Kidd were trailing by 6 points and had one last shot at the end zone before time expire. Kidd had time but drifted back and to his left. When he finally felt some pressure and took his shot, Samuel Brown met the pass at the goal line for the pick. Bored Ape FC rolled into The People’s Championship in dramatic fashion.
On a brighter note for team 8oki, they pick up the number 6 moment on the top ten list. Facing the Kingpins and quarterback Branon Silvers in week one, the defense provided a highlight reel play that football purists love to see. Ronald “Scary” Cherry had a clear path to the QB, and proceed to lay the lumber on Silver right at the end of his throwing motion. Cherry knocked off his helmet and “Knocked Silvers To Bronze“.
From that same game comes the birth of the Comeback Kidd, 8oki QB Mitch Kidd. Kidd and his squad were facing 3rd & 10 from about midfield with 2 seconds on the clock. Kidd threw a beautiful touch pass over the outstretched arms of a Kingpin defender. Joseph Boykin had to make the game winning catch with a defender at his back, leading 8oki to victory and his teammates into the Hot Mic Booth.
The Beasts bring us FCF’s next v2.0 memorable moment. Qwan’tez Stiggers had a day against the Glacier Boyz to the tune of not one, not two, but three interceptions. On his first pick he was in the right place at the right time with the quarterback and receiver not being on the same page. His second came with great pressure up front. Stiggers made his own luck though as he showcased excellent athleticism jumping up, turning away from his body and returning it 30 yards. He secure the hat trick by capitalizing on a QB hit, returning it for 32 more yards and a touchdown. Owner Marcus Peters must surely have been proud.
Earning the third place trophy for best v2.0 moment is 8oki running back Malcom Ballard. Ballard, affectionately known as ‘Gump’, got a couple of scores early near the goal line. His third score of the day was very impressive, fielding a toss near midfield, cutting back and jukeing a couple of defenders out of their shoes, going all the way to the house. With less than 2 minutes in the first half, Ballard walked into the endzone on a misdirection counter play up the gut. With 5 seconds left in that same half, Ballard got another goalline carry and would not be denied running through bodies for a record five scores.
The opening week of v2.0 brought Pro Football Hall Of Famer Terrell Owens to the FCF. Always one to make history, Owens scored in his first game in the league. It may have been garbage time, but Owens doing what he does best helped to double the teams total score and bring them within one possession. Quarterback Laquan Horton may have only completed two passes all season but he will surely remember this one.
The number one moment of FCF v2.0 goes to the champions. The Zappers started 0-4 in the v2.0 season but were able to rattle off 3 straight wins to make the playoffs. After defeating the Beasts in the playoff, the Zappers squared off against the Bored Ape FC who had compiled a 5-2 record.
During the People’s Championship, Kelly Bryant, a quarterback of Clemson fame who succeeded Deshaun Watson, comes in with the number 1 moment for season v2.0 in the FCF. Bryant used his arms and his legs to answer every call the Beasts threw at him. Ultimately, Deandre Francois of the Bored Ape Football Club had a shot at the end zone, but the Zappers defense showed up in a big way forcing the incompletion, and garnering the championship.
