We’ve just received word that the Dragons have parted ways with NFL Veteran Kicker and Super Bowl Champion Garrett Hartley in a surprising move. The 33-year-old had a rock-solid 81.7 FG% in his NFL career and would’ve brought a steady presence to their special teams unit. His signing came with some hype, but word of a failed physical ended his brief time with the Dragons.
It appears he was getting work done medically in recent years to get his body healthy, and though he and his doctors believed he was ready, the XFL disagreed. He later put out the following video on Instagram.
It’s sad to see his XFL stint end in such a way, but spinal injuries are a serious matter and it’s understandable why the league erred on the side of caution.
The Seattle Dragons will now be looking for a replacement kicker. While current Seattle Punter Brock Miller had some experience kicking extra points at Southern Utah, they’ll likely look outward. They had recently rostered former LSU Kicker Cole Tracy (87% FG with the Tigers), Ochocinco doesn’t seem like an option anymore, and PFT is still testing the waters of free agency…

I was thinking that too, they already had him in camp but it looks like they signed Ernesto Lacayo. He’s been a kicker with Indoor Football leagues since 2011. Interesting pickup

it’s sad that Mr. Garrett has such severe injury but I Like the fact the league is not keeping him for that reason. I’m bummed that it’s one of my teams players but oh well. Hopefully we’ll get a good solid kicker on the team! #GoDragons

We need more talent like so to rub off on the other players…More people that have spent years beatin’ on their craft just to be outted by the NFL, time for football to get more personal and professional everything in it love the Xfl for that
