In his XFL stint, Donald Parham was a walking highlight reel with the Dallas Renegades. The 6’8″ target was a deadly option out of the slot and made plays all over the field from the flat, to the middle and up the seam.
He led all Tight Ends with 24 catches for 307 yards and 4 scores. A huge component of the Dallas offense, he just signed a two year contract with the Chargers.
He’s an ideal flex TE, who should carve out a nice role for himself alongside Hunter Henry and Virgil Green. Henry is the established starter in this locker room, but Anthony Lynn ran 2 TE sets for years with Henry and Antonio Gates.
Virgil Green has some ability as a receiver but really earns his keep as a blocker in the run game, so it won’t be as much a competition for the #2 spot because these are two very different guys. Green is more of an H-Back while Parham serves as a flex option who’ll line up in the slot often.
While he’ll have to earn his snaps in LA, Parham is a fantastic addition to this offense, where he should see a lot of use on 3rd downs and in the red zone. The Chargers likely saw highlights like this, and wanted to bring such a unique talent into their offense.
Here’s hoping to see more plays like this in the NFL, and we wish the best for Donald Parham as he chases down his football dreams.
The Renegades will surely be sad to watch their top receiver go, but the cupboard is far from bare. Sean Price is a solid option coming out of USF, and with limited targets hauled in 6 catches for 78 yards in 2020. They also have Julian Allen, and a very deep WR corps just waiting to be unleashed in 2021.
