D’Eriq King’s Pro-Football journey has taken a pleasant right turn in the road to being a professional. King who originally was supposed to going to the DC Defenders is now joining his second NFL team the Carolina Panthers. Ironically, is replacing PJ Walker on the Panthers, who utilized his opportunity in the XFL to showcase his skillset in which he’s spent the last three seasons with.
King put up record numbers during his time in college, throwing for over 8000 yards, 76 Passing Touchdowns, he also added another 2500 yards with 35 touchdowns on the ground and receiving throughout his collegiate career. Unfortunately, despite his college success King could not find a home for long in the NFL.
King spent Twelve days with the Patriots in May before getting cut, prior to camp. Since then, King has been linked to the XFL spending weekends with Jordan Palmer and the XFL hopeful QBs. King has been in the public eye for the last couple years as he was a star at Houston and Miami who many thought would eventually be an NFL Quarterback. Unfortunately for King his journey has been less than linear in an effort to procure an NFL contract.
For King the timing is slightly ironic, as the XFL Draft and QB designation selection takes place from November 15-17th. With the DC Defenders losing their designated QB1, Head Coach Reggie Barlow will be going into the Tuesday with a new plan for the franchise. For all we know with the high volatility of the NFL regarding turnover King may find himself back in the XFL as soon as PJ Walker gets healthy. However, today King is an NFL Quarterback earning an NFL paycheck, for at least this week.
