Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Dany Garcia, and the entire XFL coaching staff were at Jackson State University for the fourth of six XFL Player Showcases. NFL Hall Of Famer Deion Sanders, coach of Jackson State was also in attendance. ESPN was also there covering the event.
Sanders was asked about the significance of the XFL showcase at Jackson State University.
“It’s enormous, very important. We’re giving our kids exposure that they would normally not get. You mean an XFL showcase? Right here on the grounds of Jackson State University. To my right, probably about 15 yards, is The Rock. Are you kidding me? And we have eight players from our team, Jackson State, and a multitude of players that we played last year that are here… They are putting on for their cities, their families, these prospective colleges. I love it. This is what I envisioned years ago and this is what we have now.”
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Dany Garcia also appeared on ESPN talking about the XFL Player Showcase at Jackson State. Garcia said doing something with HBCU schools was on their list.
“Well, I mean this is part of who the XFL is. We are committed to casting the widest net possible, to extending opportunities, to looking at underserved communities, to looking at athletes who haven’t had the light shine on them. So our commitment to the HBCU was top of mind.”
The Rock also talked about the meaning of the X in XFL.
“As we like to say, the X of our XFL is the intersection of dreams and opportunity. The players will bring the dreams, we’ll meet them halfway and we will bring that opportunity.”
Also making news during the HBCU event is former New Jersey Generals DC Chris Dishman. He will now be part of Rod Woodson’s staff in Las Vegas. Something our XFL Insider Mike Mitchell has been reporting. He is the first player or coach to leave the USFL for the XFL.
Next week the player showcases wrap up with events Friday in Arizona, including many XFL News Hub writers in attendance. Then finishing Sunday in Dallas, Texas.
After the Showcase, the XFL is holding a town hall event for former Dallas Renegades season ticket holders that Sunday night. The invite-only event will include a Q & A with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Dany Garcia, XFL President Russ Braddon, and XFL coaches.
We are also hearing about another event the next day between Senior Vice President of Player Personnel for the XFL Doug Whaley and Inside the League. They will be talking about player contracts and more. ITL is an organization for player agents.
After the showcases are complete, look for the XFL to announce the cities and venues for the 2023 season.
