XFL Co-Owner and Chairwomen Dany Garcia teased a big announcement coming from the XFL this week. Our own Jay Nokes posted the find via his Twitter.
“I like walking into an eventful week in NYC. @xfl announcement coming soon ⚡️⚡️⚡️”
NYC is the home of RedBird Capital Partners and not too far from ESPN studios at Pier17 South Street Seaport. Could we see a big TV announcement on ESPN? Sources have told us that team names and locations won’t happen till this Summer as stadium discussions are ongoing and fluid.
Over the last several weeks, we have gotten new hires, a Player Showcase timeline, and new partnerships. Aside from team names and locations, the main piece of the puzzle missing is a TV deal. The XFL announced its TV deal in May 2019, so now could be the time. The 3.0 era has been following the XFL 2.0 timeline. Team names and logos came in August 2019.
Garcia’s purchase of the XFL made her the first woman to own an equal or majority ownership stake in a major professional sports league in the United States. Garcia, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and RedBird Capital Partners purchased the XFL out of bankruptcy in August of 2020.
The XFL is expected to kick off in February of 2023.
