Before the season when the XFL announced their partnership with Bud Light Seltzer, expectations were mostly sideline banners and the occasional logo on a social media post.
Boy, have expectations been blown out of the water.
What has become of the XFL & Bud Light Seltzer Partnership has been controlled chaos and viral marketing in ways brands dream of.
Celebratory Shotguns? Field Goal Chugs? Even a Stone Cold Steve Austin style beer clap photo. The XFL has provided it all, and its only been two weeks.
Houston 3:16
John Maxey Jr. let loose after his Houston Roughnecks moved to 2-0 on the young season. The Roughnecks have been tearing up the XFL so far, posting a +3 in touchdown differential behind early-season MVP front-runner P.J. Walker’s 7 TD passes and 107.4 QB Rating.
The Classic
The Seattle Dragons celebrated their first win of the season in week two with a 17-9 win over the Tampa Bay Vipers on Saturday. In celebration, center Kirk Barron (73) opted to use his teeth to puncture his can before cracking it open for a shotgun.
The Kick Is Up!
Kickers and punters need love too. This time, the field goal team takes over for their celebration. Austin Rehkow, the team’s punter and kick holder calls for the can then tosses over to Sergio Castillo who guzzles it. Castillo made a 44-yard field goal in the first quarter of the 28-24 win.
It’s A Trend
With any luck, the post-game Bud Light Seltzer victory celebration is something that adapt throughout the season. If teams recognize these viral trends and start trying to out do each other, we could be in for some more clips down the road.
