The Spring League Week 6 Preview And Playoff Scenarios

The Spring League is entering the final weekend of their 2021 regular season. Six teams hold hopes of qualifying for TSL’s championship game on Saturday, June 19 at 3 pm ET at Rice Stadium. FOX will televise the game nationally, which will feature the Spring League North and South Divisions’ winners.

The Spring League Week 5 Recap

Week 5’s Spring League action provided two last-second wins. The Linemen rallied late with a touchdown in the game’s final seconds to hold off the winless Aviators with a 19-17 victory.

Meanwhile, the Blues kept their championship hopes alive by defeating the Jousters 12-10 on a last-second 42-yard hail mary pass by Connor Kaegi to the aptly named Lucky Jackson. The miracle play combined with a dominant victory over the Sea-Lions by the defending TSL Champs, the Generals has created a three-way tie at the top of the South Division.

The Spring League Week 6 Preview/Playoff Scenarios

Division Leaders, The Linemen, and Jousters control their destiny for a Spring League Championship appearance; if both teams win, they’ll square off in the championship game. A loss by The Linemen opens the door for the Alphas and Conquerors, depending on tie-breakers. At the same time, a defeat by the Jousters will create an opportunity for the Generals or Blues to win their division and qualify for the championship game.

The Northern Division winner could be wrapped up on Friday at 7 pm ET on FS1 if The Linemen can continue their dominance over the Alphas, who they routed 47-7 back in week 3. An Alphas victory would shift destiny into the hands of the Conquerors. They will be facing the winless Aviators at 10 pm ET on FS1. The Alphas will be rooting for a Conquerors loss, but that outcome, based on point differential tie-breakers ay not be enough to land them a spot in the championship game.

The stage is set on Saturday for TSL’s Southern Division. In the early game, scheduled at 12 noon ET on FOX. The Jousters can clinch a berth in the championship by defeating the struggling 1-4 Sea Lions. A loss by Kevin Gilbride’s Jousters squad will create a win, and you are in scenario in the primetime regular-season finale game on FS2 between the Generals and Blues.

The Spring League’s Future

A big focus in recent weeks is the announcement that the United States Football League will be returning in 2022 on FOX Sports. With the USFL moving to the forefront, the likelihood is that the Spring League fades into the background, with a strong possibility that the scouting showcase entity that has existed since 2016 becomes no more. Either way, This could very well be the final TSL season.

For the players and coaches of all eight Spring League teams. For many of them, Week 6 is a final showcase to find a pathway into the NFL before training camps start. But many players and coaches will also be holding out hopes that they can be a part of the United States Football League when their league starts to take shape in the coming weeks and months.
