Rod Woodson has had a storybook career for the ages; he played in the NFL for 17 years for four teams (Steelers, 49ers, Ravens, and Raiders). And after retiring in 2003, Woodson would play in a total of 238 games and record over 71 interceptions for 12 touchdowns, 13.5 sacks, and a total of 708 tackles combined.
A great quote by Rod Woodson from the Pro Football Hall of Fame website under Woodson’s Hall of Fame profile states
“Why set a mediocre goal, and if you reach it, you’re nowhere? Some people say, ‘only set a realistic goal.’ But how do you know what’s realistic and what’s not? Until you try to attain it, you’ll never know. If you can’t dream and hope, I don’t know why you’re here.”
And with this exact quote; shines bright with the statement, “Until you try to attain it, you’ll never know.” it feels like this quote shouts to anyone and everybody that unless you try something and attain it, you’ll never know what the outcome is of this experience, which is something Woodson is truly doing accepting this role as an XFL head coach.
The XFL, this past Sunday, officially announced the cities and stadiums for the XFL teams for the 2023 season at their first ever town hall in Arlington, TX, at Texas Live! Event center. This event occurred after the final XFL Showcase that took place earlier in the day, where Woodson went onto ESPN SportsCenter to speak about what he was ESPN SportsCenter to talk about what he is looking for in a player in his plans in the XFL. And then, during the announcement later at the XFL Town Hall, Rod Woodson was confirmed as the head coach of the Las Vegas team. It was reported earlier this year by XFL Insider Mike Mitchell here at XFLNewsHub that Rod Woodson was linked to the new Las Vegas franchise as the head coach, and that’s precisely what happened.
Rod Woodson would be quoted after he was announced as the head coach of the Las Vegas team
“To all the fans in Las Vegas – we’re going to have some fun. Our XFL team is going to play fast, play physical, play hard and play together. At the end of the day, we’re going to be winners. We’re going to enjoy the game of football, and we’re going to do it the Vegas way.”
XFL Las Vegas Staff
Currently right now the Las Vegas team has the current coaching staff that’s been announced;
Head Coach – Rod Woodson
Offensive Cordnator – TBD
Defensive Cordnator – TBD
Director of Player Personell – Joey Clinkscales
Director of Team Operations – Tameko Richardson
Vegas’s offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator haven’t been officially announced. Still, we have heard that Defensive Coordinator Cris Dishman has left the USFL to come to the XFL and will join Woodson’s staff soon.
The two main things we currently don’t know about the Las Vegas team is where they will be playing; there are a lot of reports indicating that they will be playing at Las Vegas Raiders stadium; Allegiant Stadium, which sits just off the Las Vegas Strip. There is also Sam Boyd stadium, but there is doubt about this location due to some contract issues with UNLV and Allegiant. The second thing is the team’s name; we suspect there will be a brand new team altogether rather than the Las Vegas Wildcats rumored in the past. Once these two things are finalized, it takes us a bit closer to the XFL Draft in November.
Rod Woodson Accepts Position on Baltimore Ravens Radio for 2022 Season
This isn’t the only thing Woodson is up to, as he just signed a deal to join the Baltimore Ravens WBAL Radio 1090 AM/101.5 FM and 98Rock WIYY FM to announce the Raven’s game during this season; he will join Gerry Sandusky for all 2022 Raven games this season. Gerry Sandusky stated while talking to BaltimoreRavens.com that.
“Rod brings the unique perspective of someone who has both played and coached at the highest level of the game, and he does it in a down-to-earth way that is approachable, likable, and just plain fun. It’s a privilege to work with a broadcast partner like Rod.”
Rod Woodson is joining Raven’s radio broadcast as a hall of Famer who helped bring a Super Bowl championship to Baltimore, their first in history back in 2001 against the New York Giants.
With this announcement, Rod will be a very busy head coach heading into the XFL Season. Between being on Raven’s radio and getting the Las Vegas team all together starting this November when the XFL has its draft, this will keep Rod Woodson a very busy man beginning in September when the Ravens start their season.
