Could the XFL have hired its first head coach? According to a report from Sean Robertson of WTVR CBS 6, Virginia State University head football coach Reggie Barlow has left his job for the XFL.
“Multiple sources have told me that Reggie Barlow has resigned as #VSU (@VSU_Football) Head Football Coach! Has been at VSU since 2016 and won a @CIAAForLife Title in 2017. He went 34-16 at @VSUsports. Sources say he has accepted a job with the XFL.”
The question is, did he accept a head coaching job with the XFL, or a coordinator job. It seems like the XFL scouting staff is complete and working around the country right now.
Barlow was the head coach at Virginia State University from 2016 till now. He was the head football coach at Alabama State University from 2007 to 2014.
Drafted in the fourth round of the 1996 NFL Draft by Jacksonville, he played eight seasons in the NFL as Wide Receiver and Punter Returner. Five for the Jacksonville Jaguars, two for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and one with the Oakland Raiders.
In 1997, Barlow led the NFL in punt return yards with 555 yards on 43 returns.
He began his coaching career in 2005 at Alabama State as a quarterbacks coach. He took over as head coach in 2007 and finished with a 49–42 record in eight seasons.
There is no official word from the XFL yet, which could mean the dominoes are falling. Other coaches could be getting offers now as well. We still don’t know teams, locations, a TV deal, or anything. The XFL did announce three new hires today.
