XFL Scoring Recap: Dallas Renegades Beats LA Wildcats 25 – 18

The first three quarters of this game saw Dallas and LA locked in a defensive battle. The Renegades entered the 4th quarter with a 6-3 lead but that soon changed. The 4th quarter started with a 6 yard reception from Josh Johnson to Nelson Spruce. The conversion was no good which put the score at 9-6 with the Wildcats ahead. Cameron Artis-Payne then finished off a great Dallas drive with a 21 yard touchdown.

The Renegades then went for 1 point and their attempt was successful which put Dallas ahead 13-9. Dallas then stopped the Wildcats and forced a punt. Landry Jones then threw a 3 yard touchdown which put Dallas up 19-9. Josh Johnson immediately fired back with a 44 yard touchdown to Nelson Spruce. Winston Moss went for it all with a 3 point conversion and it paid off as the Wildcats reduced the lead and got the game within 1.

The Renegades then put together a nice drive and ended with a 17 yard touchdown run from Cameron Artis-Payne to make the score 25-18. The Wildcat’s last chance drive was unsuccessful as they turned the ball over on downs. The Wildcat fans were backing their team throughout the day as WR Adonis Jennings was proud of the fans and said: “The atmosphere was great. The fans came out, and it was a good turnout. We are excited because the crowd was getting us going, unfortunately we didn’t come up with the win, but we are glad that the fans came out.”

Los Angeles Review

The defense was lights out for the first 3 quarters while the offense struggled and then the roles were reversed. The offense was expected to struggle at first as it was QB’s Josh Johnson’s first game and did not even have a full week of practice. Nelson Spruce found his second home (the end zone), as he scored 2 TD’s today. Winston Moss has to feel good about his defense as they were absolutely commanding in the first 3 quarters only allowing 6 points. The defense forced 3 turnovers and kept Landry Jones on his toes for his first XFL start.

6 catches, 89 yards, 2 TD’s (Nelson Spruce-WR)

6 combined tackles, 1 INT, 1 pass deflected (Will Smith-LB)

Key Stat 3: 4 combined tackles, 1 forced fumble (Jack Tocho- S)

Dallas Renegades Review

Bob Stoops and the coaching staff have to be impressed with Landry Jones and the Renegades. Jones, coming off an injury, made his first XFL start today and performed great. Jones became the first 300 yard passer this XFL season. Cameron Artis-Payne was lights out finding the end zone twice in the 4th quarter to help the Renegades get the win. Much like the Wildcats, the Renegades defense was a brick wall for the first three quarters only limiting the Wildcats to 3 points and forcing 2 turnovers.

70% completion percentage, 305 yards, 1 TD (Landry Jones-QB)

131 total yards, 2 TD’s(Cameron Artis-Payne- RB)

5 combined tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 fumble recovery (Greer Martini- LB)

Fantasy Review

Cameron Artis-Payne and Nelson Spruce led the way from a fantasy perceptive. Artis-Payne ended the day with 31.1 points and Nelson Spruce got 26.9. LA Wildcat running backs were a disappointment with only a combined 57 yards on the ground. Donald Parham, the Renegades TE, had a nice day for fantasy players as he had 5 receptions, 76 yards, and a touchdown.
