He’s back and better than ever. Pep Hamilton is returning to the Texans and will be the head man on the offensive side of the ball. After interviews and speculations with multiple teams, Coach Hamilton, was promoted to Offensive Coordinator the third time he’s held that position in his career.
Hamilton’s overall experience and familiarity bode well for the Houston Texans. With the franchise in flux due to an unresolved Deshaun Watson issue, and the sour taste of a shortened David Culley regime, Hamilton’s calm and unwavering spirit may prove to be a beacon of stability for the organization.
Hamiliton’s experience with quarterbacks like Andrew Luck and Justin Herbert yielded extremely successful results for the two quarterbacks in their earlier seasons. With Davis Mills appearing to overachieve his rookie season, one could assume that the Texans front office saw his rapport with Mills and hoped that Hamilton could continue to build on that success in year two.
Despite Mills success in year one, his status as QB1 in Houston remains in question. One could ask was the promotion of Hamilton a vote of confidence in the Stanford product? Or did he have another QB that he championed for at pick number 3 or pick number 37. Either way many questions continue to arise in this new era of Texans football. One that still has a troubled Pro Bowl QB sitting on the bench with 40-million-dollar cap hit.
As the Texans continue and build for the future one thing is for certain. They will be led by two respected and knowledgeable men like Pep Hamilton, and Lovie Smith. Two Men who been there and done that. With a young roster, in a franchise that’s filled with drama, uncertainty, and no clear-cut leader, Houston Texans fans can find solace in that their Offensive Coordinator will provide a positive presence when times may appear to dark and unkind. Good luck Pep, everyone here at the XFL News Hub is rooting for you.
