The XFL community is buzzing with anticipation as Nick Novak, founder of Novak Kicking & Consulting (NKC) and former professional football placekicker, announced via Instagram that NKC will once again host the official specialist showcase for the XFL.
The exclusive event is set to take place on October 22, 2023, although the location remains under wraps. Registration for the invite-only showcase will go live in June on the official NKC website, NickNovak.Com.
This news follows the successful showcase that took place in San Diego, California, in October 2022. Organized by NKC and the XFL, the event concentrated on kickers, punters, and long snappers, allowing these specialized players to display their skills to the XFL’s player personnel departments.
Reflecting on the 2022 event, Doug Whaley, Senior Vice President of Player Personnel at the XFL, expressed excitement at the opportunity to evaluate a collection of talented specialists under Novak’s guidance. He noted, “With Nick’s experience in the field and eye for talent, we are confident we will have elite specialists competing at a professional level in the XFL.”
Novak echoed Whaley’s sentiments, expressing enthusiasm for the partnership with the XFL. “Our goal is to find qualified specialists around the country and put them in a position to succeed both on and off the field,” he said. “Having the XFL provide this platform for up-and-coming specialists is an invaluable opportunity for all.”
For the 2022 showcase, NKC managed the event, which was hosted at Maranatha Christian School in San Diego, CA. XFL coaches and personnel directors attended to assess player performance for potential inclusion in the XFL Draft player pool for the 2023 season.
Founded by 15-year pro football veteran Nick Novak, NKC offers exceptional coaching and consultancy to kickers at all stages of their careers. Novak, a University of Maryland product, is a 10-year NFL veteran having kicked for several teams including the Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Football Team, Houston Texans, and San Diego Chargers. Novak has also played for the UFL Florida Tuskers, AAF Birmingham Iron, and most recently the XFL Wildcats.
Named on the San Diego Chargers 2010 All Decade Team, Novak ranks 6th on the Chargers’ all-time scoring list with 503 points and still holds the Chargers record for 32 consecutive field goals. His expertise and knowledge in the field are sure to make the 2023 specialist showcase a landmark event for the XFL.
