The Renegades offense struggled to find life, and ultimately the end zone in week one. While QB Phillip Nelsen did a good job of taking what the defense gave him, they didn’t give much and Dallas couldn’t push the ball deep. These issues are no longer a concern for Dallas as Starting QB Landry Jones will make his XFL debut on Sunday.
The Jones-Stoops connection goes all the way back to a wildly productive run at Oklahoma from 2009-2012. In that time, Jones threw 16,646 yards, 123 scores and 52 picks while winning 3 bowl games.
Jones then was selected in the 4th round by the Steelers, where he backed up Big Ben from 2013-2017 and put up solid play in a handful of starts.
After stints with the Jaguars and Raiders, he became the first ever player to sign with the XFL. With a big arm, a seasoned presence in the huddle and in depth knowledge of Bob Stoops’ system, he’s primed for a big year.
That all starts Sunday vs the Wildcats. LA struggled to stop PJ Walker’s air attack last week and gave up 276 yards and 4 scores, so it could be a big week for the Dallas Air Raid.
