June Jones Would Add Nick Rolovich To Staff If XFL Returns

Former Houston Roughnecks Head Coach and GM June Jones was a guest on Mad Dog Sports Radio on SiriusXM. Host Lance Medow had him on to discuss ex Washington State Head Coach Nick Rolovich’s decision not to get vaccinated and lose his job. Jones mentored Rolovich during his time at Hawaii. Rolovich and Jones are close after Rolovich played for Jones at Hawaii.

Jones told ABC News

“He was a quarterback, kind of his own guy, a leader,” Jones said recently. “He’s been that way as a coach. He believes that he doesn’t need to take it and doesn’t want to take it, and he doesn’t want somebody telling him what to do.”

Most pundits believe the decision could hurt Rolovich’s coaching career. He was Washington state’s highest-paid employee giving up a $3 million-a-year job. Until the COVID situation clears up, most college or pro programs might stay away. Except for maybe the XFL.

Jones told Medow

“If I get a job again in the new XFL and he wants to coach, I love the guy enough. I would bring him on and try and revive his career back up, but we will see what happens.”

Jones led the Houston Roughnecks to a 5-0 record before the season ended early. PJ Walker led the league in passing, and turned that successful NFL contract with the Carolina Panthers. Jones could do the same with Rolovich in the XFL.

June Jones has said in the past that if offered a job he would return to the XFL.

I wonder if Jones will coach in the USFL in 2022? I hope so – I like him.
