For months XFL fans have been chomping at the bit for information, and it appears that Jordan Palmer has given us one of the biggest bombshells so far. Per his Instagram, Palmer released a video of him working out with XFL Quarterbacks and right now twitter is going crazy trying to figure out who’s who.
Right now, it’s all speculative however some faces those at the workout can be assumed to be Bryan Scott, Ryan Willis, Deondre Francois, Drew Plitt, D’Eriq King, and Steven Montez. Some in the Alt-Football Media have also made speculations that Aqeel Glass, or Felix Harper may also be there however, nothing from the league can confirm.
Earlier in the month XFLNewsHub’s Mike Mitchell released an article that had 20 potential QBs the XFL could go after, so far it appears he predicted accurately on five quarterbacks who looked to be nestled into XFL opportunities.
Now too be clear these workouts are taking place in California, which is not the XFL Headquarters but only the workout facility of Jordan Palmer meaning these could be “unofficial” workouts, however as Palmer is the Director of QB development it’s likely that these workouts do mean something in relation to who is coming to the XFL.
As stated, it looks D’Eriq King, Drew Plitt, Bryan Scott, Ryan Willis, Steven Montez, and Deondre Francois all appeared to be in California working out with Palmer. A diverse group each Quarterback has a unique background and story that can definitely benefit the league in a marketing and play perspective.
Beginning with Ryan Willis, the former Spring League MVP and Champion was undrafted out of VaTech and used the spring league to earn an NFL contract with the Bears late last season. Willis comes from the Hal Mumme and Stan Bedwell, type of Offense that a couple coaches in the XFL run, making him a match for the upcoming XFL 3.0
D’Eriq King was a legend coming into the University of Houston becoming a dual-threat star during his first couple of seasons for the Cougars. King accounted for 78 Touchdowns before injuring his knee and transferring to the University of Miami. In 2020 King once again showed off his playmaking ability totaling another 27 touchdowns before another injury derailed his 2021 season. King, now finally healthy and finally invested as a Quarterback (he was signed as a WR by the Patriots in 2022), looks to be able to make a splash in the spring of 2023.
Steven Montez is an intriguing prospect who was bouncing around on practice squads before being released in May by the Lions. A long-time starter at the University of Colorado, Montez at one point looked to be used as a “Taysom Hill” gadget player, however had yet to appear in a regular season game. Incredibly raw and athletic Montez is one QB who could benefit immensely from the mentorship of Jordan Palmer.
The most recent player to be on an NFL roster, Drew Plitt was released from the Bengals on the 23rd of August. With limited preseason experience Plitt did impress going 7 of 8, for 93 yards and 1 touchdown over 2 games. Plitt does come to the XFL with copious amounts of experience starting 38 games at Ball State and throwing over 1,200 passes.
A well-traveled QB, Deondre Francois was originally the heir to National Championship ready team at Florida State, however he never lived up to the hype. Despite some controversies that led to his dismissal at Florida State, Francois put together a solid season at Hampton for his Senior Season. Despite his success, Francois has been in the Spring League, and a Star in Fan Controlled Football, throwing for 19 touchdowns over his first two seasons. Now Francois hopes to be a part of the XFL 3.0 to test and see his growth over the past several seasons.
Possibly the most polarizing player to be spotted on Jordan Palmer’s story was Bryan Scott. Scott is a friend to many of us here at XFL/USFL NewsHub, as he has constantly been a supporter of our website. Known as the Aaron Rodgers of Division-III Scott has been all over the place in an attempt solidify himself in professional football.
Between a couple stints of in the CFL, him tearing up the Spring League, and some NFL workouts, Scott finally landed a stable opportunity with the Stars before a leg injury ended his promising season early. Now it appears Scott, teams up with Palmer to get another shot this spring.
With the pieces of the XFL coming together, Palmer brings some of the more polarizing figures of the Alt-Football world and seems to have them chomping at the bit to get on that field. Hopefully, for us XFL fans we will be able to learn more about who Palmer is training and what is the next step for these XFL QBs.
