After suffering a devasting injury in December of 2021, Donald Parham Jr is coming back to the Chargers for another year. Parham’s injury at one point left his career in doubt, and now he is on his way to becoming a focal point in the LA Chargers Offense.
Parham originally was undrafted out of Stetson University in 2019. After getting cut by the Lions and failed stint on the practice squad with the Redskins in 2019, Parham would be selected by the Dallas Renegades in the Ninth Round of the XFL Draft.
Parham was an instant star with the Renegades and led the team in Yards (307) and Touchdowns (4) through five games. Upon the league canceling operations on April 10th, Parham would be signed by the LA Chargers on April 14th.
Parham’s time so far with the Chargers has translated with both on-field and financial success. He’s earned around 1.5 Million Dollars throughout his NFL career, with an additional 895,000 for the 2022 season in bound. So far in his NFL career Parham has caught thirty passes, for three hundred and forty-nine yards and six touchdowns. In 2022, Parham is expected to have a larger role in the Chargers Offense.
Currently only Parham, and 2nd year tight end Tre’ McKitty are the only Tight End’s on the roster. The resigning of Parham shows the confidence of the Chargers willingness to invest in Parham. With Jared Cook and Stephen Anderson both free agents this year, it looks like the Chargers are committed to Parham taking a bigger role with the team.
Parham’s career so far is definitely considered a success. Coming out of a small school and then taking advantage of the XFL, Parham has created a spot for himself in the NFL. No matter what happens in 2022, the fact that Parham is able to make it back on the field is definitely an accomplishment in itself.
Parham’s success is also extremely important for the future of Spring Football. As players like him coming from these alternative leagues are able to show the NFL, that the talent is out there, and that these players should be afforded an opportunity to play at a high level.
