Aaron Wilson is reporting that 13-year NFL veteran Terrell Buckley will become the new head coach of the XFL Orlando franchise. He is a former 1st round pick of the Green Bay Packers and won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.
This news confirms what our own Mike Mitchell reported yesterday that the league was moving a franchise from Tampa Bay to Orlando. The XFL stayed away from the city of Orlando in 2020 because the AAF’s Apollos were there. The AAF had not folded yet when the XFL picked its cities.
Buckley played in the NFL from 1992 to 2005 with stops in Green Bay, Miami, Denver, New England, and New York with both the Jets and Giants.
His coaching career started in 2007 at Florida State. He went on to coach with Akron, Louisville, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss.
He is joining the XFL head coaching ranks with Reggie Barlow, who will coach the San Antonio franchise. No official word from the XFL just yet.
The league announced its new branding and vision for the XFL 3.0 era yesterday. We hear that there should be a flurry of XFL announcements for April and May as the league gears up for the 2023 season.
