The wave of Arlington Renegades players heading to the NFL yet again hits land as two defensive linemen from the championship team agreed to contract with NFL teams.
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reported Wednesday morning that the Las Vegas Raiders have signed defensive lineman Doug Costin to a contract. Another player Wilson announced the signing of defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile who is joining the Denver Broncos.
This would be Laulile’s second NFL contract during training camp after previously being with the San Francisco 49ers last week before being cut in place of former St. Louis BattleHawks running back Brian Hill. Laulile recorded nine tackles and an interception for a touchdown in nine games last season for the Renegades. He added a tackle, sack, and tackle for loss in the postseason to help Arlington win the XFL Title.
Costin played four games for Arlington last season, recording two tackles for the team. He also had two tackles in two postseason games for the Renegades as well.
The big news with Costin was that he became the eighth Renegades player to sign with the NFL and the third defensive lineman from the team to land in the NFL. Arlington has also seen Sal Cannella, Garrett McGhin, Victor Bolden, Bruce Hector, Willie Taylor, and Darren Evans sign with NFL teams.
What will become interesting for the Renegades is the amount of movement on the defensive line with not only three players in the NFL, but T.J. Barnes retiring from football. This will leave Arlington with six defensive linemen on the active roster with Will Clarke being the biggest name on the list. The team should look to add more depth to the position in the upcoming months.
This is just another sign that it is encouraging to see more Renegade players signing with the NFL. The goal for each XFL team is to see players signed to the NFL so Arlington has been picking up steam in that department in the last couple of weeks. The Renegades hope to see more from their team get shots with the NFL.
