The NFL’s Atlanta Falcons announced the signing of Dallas Renegades guard Willie Beavers Thursday via Twitter:
Beavers was a 4th-round pick out of Western Michigan by the Minnesota Vikings in 2016. He bounced around practice squads following his rookie year until he was picked by the Renegades in Round 1 of Phase 2 of the 2020 XFL draft.
He was able to showcase his talent this spring as a big part of the success of the Renegades rushing attack with Cameron Artis-Payne and Lance Dunbar. Nine other Renegades players were in an NFL camp this summer. He joins WR Jeff Badet, TE Donald Parham, and RB Austin Walter as Dallas players who are currently in the NFL.
Beavers had a workout with the Falcons on August 20th, and now that teams are starting to experience some attrition, they’re signing guys left and right. He played tackle in college, so he has the versatility to play inside and out.
Once again it’s showing the importance of the XFL. As injuries continue to stack up, we will see guys with the most recent experience get the opportunities.
This NFL offseason wasn’t very kind to undrafted free agents, which could make the next XFL season even more important, as a lot of those guys will surely want to display their talents, to show they can play at a high-level.
The signing makes 20 XFL players on NFL rosters. You can follow your favorite players or teams to see their status on our XFL to NFL tracker.
