Ex-JMU Standout QB Todd Centeio Joins XFL Ranks, Signs with Orlando Guardians

Todd Centeio, the talented signal-caller hailing from James Madison University (JMU), is set to make his professional debut in the XFL after inking a contract with the Orlando Guardians, the league confirmed recently.

In 2022, Centeio brought his talents to JMU, suiting up as the team’s starter in ten games. His impact was felt immediately, injecting dynamism and precision into the Dukes’ offense.

Centeio’s phenomenal season, culminating in the honor of the 2022-23 JMU Male Athlete of the Year, saw him amass 2,697 passing yards with a commendable 25-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Besides his prowess in the air, the Florida-native showed his versatility, rushing for 393 yards and tacking on seven additional scores. In total, he tallied 3,090 yards and a staggering 32 touchdowns, painting a picture of a versatile offensive threat.

The West Palm Beach native’s singular season at JMU resulted in record-book worthy stats. He ended his collegiate run in the top-10 in five major categories in JMU’s single-season history, sitting sixth in passing touchdowns, seventh in both passing yards and total offense, and rounding out the top ten in completions (181) and pass attempts (284).

Centeio’s exemplary performances didn’t go unnoticed, as he was crowned both the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. The honors continued to roll in, as he was bestowed with the title of Virginia Sports Information Directors State Offensive Player of the Year. Furthermore, his name appeared on the midseason watchlists for prestigious accolades such as the Maxwell Award, the Manning Award, and the CFPA National Performer of the Year, in addition to his selection for the Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2022.

As the second senior from the class of 2022 to join the XFL, Centeio follows in the footsteps of defensive lineman Jamare Edwards. Edwards found a new home with the Vegas Vipers earlier this June during the XFL Rookie Draft. The Orlando Guardians can now look forward to integrating a dynamic quarterback talent like Centeio into their ranks, signaling exciting times for the XFL faithful.
