Arlington Renegades Trade for Vegas Vipers QB Luis Perez

Just one day after the Arlington Renegades released quarterback Kyle Sloter, the team made a trade with the Vegas Vipers for Luis Perez.

The league’s communication department announced it Tuesday afternoon. Arlington is sending linebacker Ryan Mueller to the Vipers in exchange for Luis Perez.

Perez has been the starter for the Vipers for most of the season battling with Brett Hundley for the job. This season, Perez is fifth in the XFL in passing yards with 901 throwing for eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also completed 65.3 percent of his passes.

Many spring football fans know Perez well as he is the only quarterback to win a game in the XFL (2023), USFL, The Spring League, XFL (2020), and AAF. He quarterbacked the New Jersey Generals to the playoffs last season in the USFL before losing to the Philadelphia Stars in the first round. Perez has also participated in training camps with multiple NFL teams including a stop with the Los Angeles Rams.

Ryan Mueller was released by the Renegades prior to training camp and was recently re-signed by the team due to injuries to the linebacker position. Mueller has not stepped on the field for the Renegades this season. He previously played in the XFL for the New York Guardians back in 2020 stplaying at linebacker for the team.

Currently, Arlington has two quarterbacks on the roster that includes Drew Plitt and Kevin Anderson. Plitt started two games for the team and appeared in three throwing three touchdowns and three interceptions. Anderson has not been active in a game this season for the Renegades since the beginning of the season.

Perez brings plenty of experience and success that is needed for an Arlington team that is second to last in passing yards and last in passing touchdowns. He’s a perfect fit in an offensive system that runs the spread and is balanced between the run and pass. It is unknown whether he will play on Friday night against the Seattle Sea Dragons. What is clear though is the Renegades made the change that was needed and should see success come with it on offense.

You always guard around this kind of trade in fantasy leagues. Here it is happening for real. This is a very bad look, but I understand it for the betterment of the league. These are things we need to stay away from in seasons 2 and 3.

This almost feels like a League induced move. Why would Vipers trade Perez?
