What a weekend. After the USFL had their opening kickoff Saturday night, the Fan Controlled Football v2.0 also kicked off as well. One of the players making their debut after a hiatus from football was Terrell Owens.
Owens, is an NFL Hall of Famer who is now in his 4th Professional Football League. After an amazing career in the NFL, Owens played with the Allen Wranglers of the IFL scoring 10 touchdowns in Eight games, and had a short stint with the Canadian Football League Edmonton Eskimos in 2018 during their camp. Now Owens joins the Zappers where he’s not the only NFL stand out on the roster.
Owens joins Johnny Manziel on the Zappers, but Manziel was not the quarterback when Owens caught the touchdown. However, a Manziel-Owens connection could be in play as the season unfolds. But for now Owens will catching touchdowns from Danny Southwick, and Laquan Horton.
Owens is not only going to being playing on the field he’s also working with the FCF on multiple levels. T.O. was also doing play-by-play after he was done playing on Saturday. Owens also interviewed current and former NFL players after playing on a segment called “The T.O. Zone.” It’s clear to see that Owens’ presence is not only on the field but also off it.
Though the Zappers lost to the “Shoulda Been Stars”, Owens was able to score a touchdown in the final seconds of the game, making an exciting ending for everyone involved with the FCF. At 48 years old T.O. was able to draw multiple double teams and a couple penalties against players half his age.
Regardless of the future of the FCF, one thing is for sure. The league has a grade A marketing and plenty of people who want to see it succeed. Though it’s not an amazing way for players to make a living the FCF offers players another avenue to showcase their skills, in front of a lot of scouts, coaches and fans. With players/personalities like T.O. younger players also have an insane opportunity to learn from a guy who is still extremely capable at playing at a high level.
