FCF alumni have been making major headlines during the pre-season, whether it be Andrew Jameil and James Harden racing Terrell Owens in the 40-yard dash, or Kavontae Turpin returning two kicks for touchdowns, another FCF Wide Receiver also was granted an opportunity today.
Travis Toivonen a wide receiver out of North Dakota University was signed to replace an ailing Giants receiving corps to finish out the Pre-Season. Toivonen was waived by the Giants on July 26th but injuries to Austin Proehl, Collin Johnson, Marcus Kemp, Robert Foster, and USFL Stand-Out Bailey Gaither failing his physical, The Giants were forced to add Toivonen to bolster their Wide Receiver room for the final week of the Pre-season.
Toivonen began his pro career in the FCF and per XFLNewsHub’s Kyle Sheridan led the league in receptions, yards, and was second in receiving touchdowns. Toivonen would translate late his success into a contract with the Seahawks and would be waived after camp. Toivonen would then be picked up by the Giants spending most of 2021 on their practice squad, before getting waived.
Whether it’s unclear if Toivonen has a legit opportunity to make the Giants 53-man roster or even their practice squad however, he will most likely get some reps for them in the preseason finale. Though it may be a longshot any opportunity to go out and garner some film whether it be in practice or during their game this week is something any lesser-known player would be grateful for. Either way for Toivonen, he’s still impressed the Giants enough to remain relevant to garner a call for one more shot at the NFL.
