According to a report by Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel, Steve Spurrier still has an interest in coaching after the folding of the AAF. Possibly even for the XFL.
Spurrier, who coached at South Carolina and Florida and a stint as Redskins Head Coach, oversaw the Orlando Apollos of the AAF. They finished the season with a 7 -1 record, best in the league.
“At this point in my life, this is the perfect job. It’s four or five months of just being a coach. In college football and the NFL, you have a lot of other stuff to worry about,” the head coach told Mike Bianchi Wednesday.
When asked if he would listen if McMahon called with a coaching offer, he replied: “I’ll worry about that if it happens.”
The XFL might be the perfect fit now that the AAF is over. Oliver Luck already hired Bob Stoops to XFL Dallas, a close friend of Spurrier. Bob Stoops is his old University of Florida defensive coordinator. Could Spurrier land a head coaching gig in maybe XFL Houston or the offensive coordinator for Bob Stoops team?
Spurrier is a big name that will draw fans. All casual football fans know and love Steve Spurrier. Don’t be surprised to see him on the sidelines somewhere in 2020 for the XFL.
