XFL Adds A Director Of Football Special Projects

We are not sure this falls under the XFL’s plans to trickle out news. But on Twitter Cheshire Academy released the following Tweet.

“After helping more than 200 student-athletes go on to play college football and winning more than 50 games in the last 10 years at CA, David has been named the XFL director of football special projects. Thank you, David, for all that you have done for CA.”

Dave Dykeman has been the Head Football Coach at Cheshire Academy for almost 10 years.

“Under head coach Dave Dykeman, Cheshire Academy has produced well over 100 college football players in the last decade. Those players have gone on to play at Alabama, Harvard, high-academic Division III institutions and others colleges.”

The question is what is XFL director of football special projects and why is it import to hire for that position now. The XFL last month announced its first hiring of executive level personnel. The league added 9 including Russ Brandon, Marc Ross and Doug Whaley. It seems like this position is important but what it entails we do not know.

Given Dykeman’s background as a high school coach, the XFL may be planning on doing things at the high school level. Back in October Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave back to his former High School Football team. In his partnership with Under Armour they gave players from McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii and Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, gear from his Project Rock line. Could the role of XFL director of football special projects be something along those lines?

There has been no official job postings so far from the league. So clearly this has been a hire behind the scenes.

The XFL is set to return February 18th 2023. Stay tuned to XFL News Hub for all the build up to the 2023 season.
