Seattle Sea Dragons Sign Former NFL DE Chris Smith

On Thursday, the Seattle Sea Dragons announced the signing of former NFL defensive end Chris Smith. Smith will wear number 42 and will be active for Saturday’s matchup against the San Antonio Brahmas.

Chris Smith played 4 seasons at the University of Arkansas, appearing in 43 games for the program. In that time, he totaled 122 tackles (61 solo/ 61 assisted), 30.5 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, 7 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. During his senior season, Smith earned Second-Team All-SEC honors and received an invite to the Senior Bowl.

After his collegiate career, Smith was selected in the 5th round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He stayed with the Jaguars through the 2016 season, spending most of that time on the practice squad.

In 2017, Smith signed with the Cincinnati Bengals and played in all 16 regular season games, recording a career-high 26 tackles and 3 sacks. Following his time with the Bengals, Smith signed a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns. He played in 16 games (2 starts) for the Browns but was released in December 2019.

After his time in Cleveland, Smith spent time with Carolina Panthers and the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, then spent the 2021 season with the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans. Over his NFL career, Smith has appeared in 72 games, totaling 81 tackles (55 solo/ 26 assisted), 11 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 6 pass deflections.
