NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that the Houston Texans are expected to hire Pep Hamilton as quarterbacks coach. He was the QB coach for the Los Angeles Chargers last season.
Hamilton’s name was in the mix for multiple offensive coordinator openings in the NFL. No word on if the XFL reached out to the former DC Defenders Head Coach
The problem for Hamilton with his new team is who will be the starting quarterback. He drew high marks for his work with Chargers rookie QB Justin Herbert. The question in Houston is who will be the starting quarterback. Star QB Deshaun Watson has requested a trade. It’s unknown at this point what the Texans will do.
Under Hamilton, Herbert completed 396 passes on 595 attempts for 4,336 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 98.3 passer rating in 15 starts.
The 46-year-old Hamilton was the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive coordinator from 2013-15 and was Andrew Luck’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Stanford in 2011. Before joining the XFL he was the University of Michigan’s assistant head coach/passing game coordinator under Jim Harbaugh.
