After signing with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad a week ago. DC Defenders P Hunter Niswander will make his first start this weekend for the Cowboys against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Week 9 matchup.
Cowboys starting P Chris Jones will undergo surgery to repair a core muscle, per head coach Mike McCarthy. It is unclear if he will return to the field this season at all. He will be unavailable for “multiple weeks” as he recovers from surgery.
Niswander played his college ball at Northwestern University and averaged 43 yards per punt his senior year. He finish second in the XFL with 44.6 yards per punt and eight punts pinned inside the 20-yard line. He was an honorable mention in Mike Mitchell’s All XFL 2020 team.
Niswander was taken in the Phase #5 portion of the 2020 XFL draft by the DC Defenders. He is the seventh XFL player to be part of an NFL active roster.
