The Cincinnati Bengals hired Louie Cioffi as their defensive quality control coach on Friday. The is his second stint with the Bengals. He was on the team’s staff from 1997 to 2010 as a defensive assistant and defensive backs coach.
Before the XFL season started in 2020 Defensive Coordinator Jeff Fitzgerald had resigned from the team, citing the unforeseen need to be closer to family. Head Coach Pep Hamilton then promoted Cioffi to the Defensive Coordinator role, at the time, he was the teams Passing Game Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach.
Cioffi also spent time in the NFL with the Browns, Titans, Cardinals, and Jets. He had a stop at Division 1-AA FCS Southeastern Louisiana as the Defensive Coordinator in 2018 before joining the Atlanta Legends of the AAF as Linebackers Coach in 2019.
