Following Joe Burrow’s calf strain, the Cincinnati Bengals have made a strategic move to bolster their quarterback depth. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bengals have signed Reid Sinnett, a standout from the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas. This move reflects the team’s need for additional support at the quarterback position as Burrow is slated for several weeks of recovery.
The #Bengals plan to sign FA QB Reid Sinnett after today’s workout, source said. The former San Antonio Brahmas starter in the XFL, he most recently played for the #Dolphins in the NFL. He’ll help Cincy manage practice with the injury to Joe Burrow. It’ll be official tomorrow.

Sinnett, 26, participated in a Bengals workout alongside fellow XFL player Drew Plitt, who made five appearances for the Arlington Renegades last season. Sinnett, however, was the one to secure the position, offering a new layer of depth behind Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning, the only healthy quarterbacks currently on the roster.
Before finding success with the Brahmas, Sinnett had an intriguing journey in professional football. An undrafted prospect in 2020, he spent time on the practice squads of the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins during the 2022 season, further honing his skills. It seems the Bengals have identified the talent and potential Sinnett brings to the table, counting on him to fill the gap in Burrow’s absence.
The Bengals’ decision to bring Sinnett onboard might be a clear indication of their faith in Burrow’s speedy recovery. They could have considered quarterbacks with more NFL experience, but instead opted for Sinnett, who despite his lack of regular-season NFL appearances, has proven his mettle in the XFL and on various NFL practice squads.
As the Bengals adjust to life without Burrow, the eyes will undoubtedly be on Sinnett to see how he manages this unexpected opportunity. His performance in training camp and any potential game time will be a key storyline in the coming weeks.
