BattleHawks safety Kenny Robinson has had an up-and-down season when it comes to actively playing in the XFL and being on an NFL practice squad. Our Mike Mitchell is reporting, that Robinson has been promoted to the Carolina Panthers’ active roster.
Robinson had an issue his junior year at West Virginia and tried to transfer, but the school blocked that, which sparked his decision to play in the XFL. He later became eligible for the 2020 NFL draft.
Selected in the 5th round by the Panthers, Robinson became the first XFL player to successfully transition to the NFL.
After COVID-19 cut the offseason training down to minimal practices, and no preseason games, Robinson went through the cycle of being released, and signed to the Panthers Practice Squad.
The promotion opens a spot on the Panthers practice squad, which is now occupied by former Renegades CB Josh Hawkins. Hawkins worked out for the team earlier this month, and now is part of the squad.
This week we also saw Roughnecks CB Saivion Smith activated by Dallas, and Robinson’s addition make seven XFL players on active NFL rosters. Keep in-the-know with our XFL-to-NFL Tracker.
Given that we had a limited training camp for the league, playing in the XFL has provided more opportunities for players to get noticed. This is a trend that will continue, especially once the league gets back on the field in 2022.
