New USFL Tampa Bay Bandits head coach Todd Haley was a guest on the Extra Points podcast. They talked about the latest NFL playoffs, the Pittsburgh Steelers QB situation, then get into Haley taking the USFL job, Jeff Fisher, Antonio Brown, and more.
Who reached out to Haley and offered him the job and why he is going to the USFL.
“Moose Johnson, who reached out to me, who I’ve always been a huge fan of and is great to be around. And they got Fox and NBC. So what more could you ask for?”
He did drop a name of a former NFL coach who was rumored to be part of the XFL 2.0 era in Jeff Fisher. Will Fisher be brought in as a head coach in the USFL?
“A lot of good people involved got to spend some time with old friends, Jeff Fisher, and others today.”
Haley talks about where the USFL players will come from for the 2022 season.
“So where the players come from has been very interesting to me. I can’t get into all that right now, but we’ll be able to fill a roster. There’s a lot of guys, especially in the springtime, that want to play football and want an opportunity, and I think that’s what’s great about it.”
Haley then addresses the text he sent to Antonio Brown after his meltdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brown you recall, made fun of Haley’s text about the USFL.
“I was in the preliminary process of deciding to take this job. I knew this is somebody that I cared about for a long time and was going through, obviously a lot of different things. So it was a reach out to let him know that I was continuing to support him. I did not have a contract in hand.”
We are less than 90 days until USFL kick-off, with four more USFL coaches announced today. Stay tuned to XFL News Hub for all the breaking USFL news.
