XFL Las Vegas Vipers Have A Home, Cashman Field

Wednesday, the Las Vegas Vipers announced that they have decided to call Cashman Field their home. After months of looking for a stadium to call home the Vipers have decided to play at Cashman field for the 2023 season. Cashman Field, a $26 million dollar stadium is also home to the Las Vegas Lights FC and former Las Vegas 51’s.

The stadium can seat over 12,500 people to 15,000 people depending on if they add more seating to the stadium before the season begins. The Vipers had other options in Vegas such as Sam Boyd Stadium (UNLV Football), Allegiant (Las Vegas Raiders), or Bishop Gorman High School.

The Vipers will open doors to fans in their home opener. Week 2 (Feb. 25th at 4PM PT) against the DC Defenders in their first home game of the season.

This seems like “settling” for what you can get so the XFL is going to save money and save face. Smaller stadiums are fine but not sure this is the type of choice I’d make versus another city with no NFL team like Oakland, San Diego, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Oklahoma, or Omaha. Of course stadium situation would still matter in those locations too at TV ratings appeal. It will be interesting to hear the history of how this all went down with Vegas, but I’m getting “temp” vibe from this, especially if the attendance is poor, the Vipers could be somewhere else in 2024.

I’m sure the Vipers will pull a Chargers (back in the 1960’s) and move to San Diego after one season.
The Las Vegas Raiders are selling out seats like hot cakes! If the Vipers can’t sell out that puny stadium even with cheap tickets, I’m going to laugh so hard!

I agree that it might be a quick fix. That stated the XFL already has a prime location in St. Louis and could easily move into Arizona without any competition from the USFL as the timing for would be poor for the USFL. To me to have a beat case scenario would leave San Diego and Denver for the USFL. I think Cashman Field was a fallback position, but really the biggest thing was to make this work. In less than a month we will start to see how this works. I am a USFL fan first, but am rooting for the XFL as well and glad they were able to get this done. Now thwy will have a year to plan something going forward, whether it be any of the locals discussed between the two comments or if there is a need for anither home in Vegas.
