XFL: DC Defenders ‘Beer Snake’ Worth Over $17,000, Towering Above a Five-Story Building

DC Defenders fans participated in creating an impressive “beer snake,” a massive structure made from stacking empty beer cups, while attending a sold-out XFL game at Audi Field last Sunday. The game featured the Arlington Renegades and the home team Defenders, with 18,684 fans in attendance.

The massive beer snake built by Defenders fans went viral during the game.

ESPN shared facts about the impressive structure:
Measuring 30-row length (approximately 60 feet)
Consisted of 1,440 beer cups
Costing around $17,280 at $12 per cup
The beer snake is taller than a five-story building

The Defenders (8-1) secured a victory over the Renegades (4-5), 28-26, granting them home-field advantage for the North Division Championship. Along with the win, Defenders fans were thrilled to have the beer snake on display, after a previous snake was removed during a game on February 19. The removal had led to fans throwing lemons onto the field, prompting the team to establish a “code of conduct” permitting the beer snake’s return.

The new guidelines stipulated that only empty beer cups could be used for the snake, cups could not be thrown from other sections to join the structure, and cups could not be thrown on the field. Beers must be properly disposed of after the game. Sunday’s beer snake spectacle demonstrated that the fans have complied with the rules since the February 19 incident.

As the Defenders advance toward the XFL championship, their fans continue to showcase their enthusiasm and support. The DC Defender fan still throw lemons on the field, just not as much.
