XFL Already In Planning Stages For Season Two, The XFL Will Be Back in 2024

XFL co-owners Dany Garcia and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently talked with USA Today about the current status of the XFL, how the owners think the season is going, and if there will be a season two.

Garcia talks about the current state of the XFL’s TV ratings. Ownership is pleased with the results, and things are going according to plan.

“We have been very much in the pocket of understanding of where our ratings would be,” Garcia said. “We understood the challenges that would happen, all the way through Week 5. And as we get into Week 6 and the latter half of the schedule, we knew where it would open up. So we’re really pleased – really, really pleased with the execution.”

The question for many Spring Football fans is whether there will be another season. It is hard for fans to get in 100% behind a league when the AAF and XFL closed their doors in the past. Garcia said the XFL is already planning season two.

“This will come out later as far as what these dates are, but we have our showcases, we have our future combine, we are planning our dates,” said Garcia, the first female owner of a major sports league.

“Absolutely, there will be a 2024 XFL football season.”

Johnson talks about how the XFL is a true passion project for both of them and how they are in it for the long term.

“This isn’t one-and-done,” Johnson said. “This isn’t ‘let’s expand the portfolio, let’s make a little money and let’s get out of the game.’ This truly is a passion project that has dated back to when we were kids coming out of the University of Miami.”

They talk about their relationship with the NFL, the impact of XFL rules in the NFL, and their partnership with the league.

The Rock also gives a shout-out to the XFL fans attending games in season one.

“Johnson said he understands why people might be hesitant or cynical about diving headfirst into XFL fandom, given that two of the past three attempts at spring football have come crashing down after less than a full season. (The USFL will return for its second season in April.)
But he also credited those who have come out to games, calling it “one of the coolest things I’ve experienced in sports.”

“It’s one thing when we all go to a game and we go to see our favorite players and they’re stars and the world knows who they are,” Johnson said. “It’s another thing when it’s just for the love of the game and the love and pride of the city, and the respect you have for these players who are just working their butts off, trying to make it.””

XFL fans can take a sigh of relief, despite all the chatter about attendance and TV ratings. The XFL will be back for a second season.

Fans, players, coaches, and staff can be thankful for the success of any Alt-Football league. We all want any of these leagues to succeed. Those who don’t only do so for selfish reasons.

That’s good news for XFL fans. So I’m wondering, are they gonna have more expansion teams or they gonna keep the 8 teams

it’s good to hear they will be returning…I watch some of the games every weekend all though my City doesn’t have a team. Alot of people are sick and tired of shenanigans of the NFL….just stick with it and attendance and viewership will continue to grow…maybe focus on markets that have no teams. I watched the XFL when they came down into the States in the 1990’s and I loved the USFL.

I don’t think expansion should even be whispered right now. Let the league find its feet in the football calendar, get a more secure foothold and consolidate. However, I do think awarding franchises to Orlando and Vegas was a mistake. Las Vegas has never really been a football city and Orlando has been let down by inconsistent play at the QB position and the coach isn’t really helping the team. I think fans would support a team in places like Lincoln, Nebraska, Fargo, Nrth Dakota, Provo, Utah and maybe New Mexico. If the league is going to consider changes I think these are the areas they might want to look at.

Move Vegas team to Oakland and Orlando team to San Diego. Attendance will look like St. Louis.
