XFL 2023: Vegas Vipers Offensive Group Breakdown

The draft, supplemental draft, and NFL Alumni Academy signings are all complete. Now practice and the season are now on everyone’s calendar to be next up. The Vegas Vipers have 74 players currently on the roster (66 Players need to be on the roster for the season) after all these phases of signings and drafting.

Quarterbacks (3): Bryan Scott/ Luis Perez/ Jalan McClendon

Bryan Scott is definitely being looked at as QB1 for the Vipers after he was assigned to the Vipers soon after his contract expired with the USFL. He could get the go ahead to start the first game of the season. Luis Perez, a journeyman, has played in 4 different leagues (NFL, 4 Different Teams/ AAF, Birmingham/ TSL/ USFL, NJ Generals).

Jalan McClendon is a former XFL LA Wildcat (2020) quarterback but only got to play a small percentage of snaps. He also had a few stints in the NFL with the Ravens (2019) and Commanders (2019).

Running Backs (5): John Lovett/ Matt Jones/ DeAndre Torrey/ Rod Smith/ Taeyler Porter

Lovett was the Vipers 2nd round pick (12th Pick). The former Carolina Panther is only 23 years old with serious potential to become dangerous in both the receiving and rushing game.

DeAndre Torrey is a 5 ‘7 burst of speed who can get around defenders with ease and is also up to be a serious contender for the RB1 spot.

Matt Jones (4 Years, 3 Teams) and Rod Smith (7 Years, 5 Teams) are both NFL veterans who have both shown what they could do in their long career’s.

Taeyler Porter was a dominant running back at the UAPB. He had 2 great seasons in 2018 and 2019, with 2,237 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns was why it was hard for the Vipers to not to sign him.

Wide Receiver Corps (9): Martavis Bryant/ Jeff Badet/ Saeed Blacknall/ Matthew Sexton/ Isiah Macklin/ Mustaqueem Williams/ Cyrus Holder/ Cinque Sweeting/ Devion Clayton

Martavis, Badet, Blacknall, and Sexton all have NFL experience and experience in other leagues as well (XFL, 2020/ CFL/ USFL/ TSL/ FCF).

Mustaqueem, Cinque, and Cyrus all have insane speed that make them serious deep threats and are all looked at as great additions to an already stacked wide receiver group.

Isiah and Devion are both hometown kids looking to shine and show what they can do against top tier talent in the XFL.

Tight Ends (7): Brandon Dillon/ Sean Price/ Grayson Gunter/ Cam Sutton/ Nick Guggemos/ Travis Koontz/ Jordan Wilson

Brandon Dillon has great athleticism at 6 ‘5 which is why the Vipers chose him in the 3rd round with the 21st pick. Dillon has also played for 3 NFL teams, Vikings (2020), Jets (2021), and the Saints (2022). Grayson Gunter is a very physical tight end and a great blocker which makes him very tough to matchup against.

Sean Price, a Ocala Police Officer, played for the XFL back in 2020 and was drafted back to the league by the Vipers in the 4th round with the 28th pick.

Cam Sutton, Travis Koontz, Jordan Wilson, and Nick Guggemos were all drafted in the supplemental portion of the drafting phase and are all great tight ends that could become a huge part of the offense.

O-Linemen (14): Antonio Garcia/ Ben Petrula/ Dohnovan West/ Jamil Demby/ Clayton Bradley/ Michael Miller/ Quinterrius Eatmon/ Avery Young/ Tony Adams/ Tre Johnson/ Fernando Frye/ Larry Williams/ Matt Cohen/ Isaiah Williams

Antonio Garcia, Ben Petrula, Clayton Bradley, Quinterrius Eatmon, Avery Young, Tre Johnson, and Matt Cohen are all listed as offensive tackles and will be protecting this season’s QB1.

Jamil Demby, Michael Miller, Tony Adams, Fernando Frye, Larry Williams, and Isaiah Williams just like the offensive tackles are listed as offensive guards that will be blocking the interior along with the Center Dohnovan West who is only 21 years old.
