XFL 2020 Television Schedule Review

The XFL 2020 season kicks off on Saturday, February 8th at 2 pm with its inaugural game on ABC with the following game at 5 pm on FOX. Sunday, February 9th at 2 pm will have another game on FOX followed by a 5 pm game on ESPN.

Sunday games switch up throughout the season. Unlike the AAF, most people have these channels and they are easy to find. Something XFL CEO Oliver Luck had stressed the importance of during recent interviews.

Week 9 will be our first Thursday night matchup at 8 pm on FOX. This will be the XFL’s first prime time game and one would assume a flexed scheduled game. Meaning the top matchup of that week would be on Primetime rather than have a game already scheduled. The matchup would be important for ratings. You would not want to see two bad teams on primetime. it would be a bad look for the league with all eyes watching.

Week 9 and 10 Sunday games are more spread out and earlier. This could be for more coverage since these games have playoff implications. Also, Week 9 April 5th, 2020 is also WrestleMania 36. XFL playoff implications and WrestleMania weekend at the same time.

One playoff game on Saturday, April 18th on Fox. Then one Sunday, April 19th on ESPN. Both on good networks and should get great ratings

Some Questions Remain

  • When will the team names and logos be announced
  • When will the team schedules be released
  • Where will the Championship game be played
  • What will the Championship game be called

The XFL, Oliver Luck, Vince Mcmahon, and their team really knocked it out of the park on this one.

It would be nice to name it something like: SpringBowl or XFLeague Bowl or just XFL Cup Finals or XFL Championship Cup. Just suggestions nothing more but SpringBowl/SummerBowl it’s something that XFL would need to name this “Championship” game.

Make it simple and call it the XFL Championship Bowl. Also overtime or sudden death should be a kicker shoot out between both opposing teams. Both kickers start kicking from the 20 yard line, then they go to 30 yard line, then they go to the 40 yard line and finally they end up at the 50 yard line. Whatever team’s kicker has the best out of four or most points wins in overtime. If both sides misses all field goals or makes the same amount of field goals in overtime or sudden death the game becomes a draw or tie. Each field goal is a point and if any field goal is blocked by the defense during the overtime or sudden death field goal shoot out, it becomes an additional point for that team. Now that would be exciting!

Is there any way for us (international fans) to follow the XFL via streaming (Something like NFL Gamepass)? Any deal with a Spanish network TV? (I’m from Spain).
