TV Deal, New Teams, New Cities Coming For XFL 3.0 Era

Today, the Rock was a guest on CNBC’s TechCheck to talk about the success of his tequila business Teremana Tequila, the movie ‘Red Notice’ breaking records on Netflix, and more projects, including the XFL.

The Co-Owner of the XFL dropped this bomb coming in 1 to 2 months from the XFL.

“We are a little over one year away from watching our XFL. That is our professional football brand with our chairwoman, Danny Garcia and our other partner, Gerry Cardinale, from RedBird Capital. And we should maybe within the next month or maybe two months, we’re going to be announcing our broadcast partners, which we’re very excited about and new teams, new cities and very excited about that… as a former player myself, what an opportunity it is to create an opportunity for other players to live out their dream and take care of their families.”

So by the end of February at the latest, we will learn who the XFL’s broadcast partners are and get new teams and new cities.

Let the speculation begin.

What The Rock could mean as far as new cities and teams is something we have talked about before on the XFL Week In Review podcast. Houston or Dallas moving to San Antonio is a possibility. Something the XFL was looking into before the league shut down.

The Tampa Bay Vipers moving to Orlando is also a possibility. The XFL stayed away from San Antonio and Orlando in their 2.0 version because, at the time. The Alliance of American Football (AAF) had teams there.

As for new teams, we know the NFL has challenged the Houston Roughnecks logo, and the league looks like they have dropped its design. The NFL felt the oil rig logo looked too much like the Houston Oilers logo from the past.

The next question is, will there be entirely new teams in the XFL. Bringing the league to 10 teams. Talk of the XFL being an international brand is something Chairwoman Dany Garcia has talked about before. So putting a team in Mexico or Canada could be on the radar.

What a significant bit of news to drop just before Christmas. The first quarter of 2022 will be exciting for every XFL fan.

If the CFL is willing to go to 4 downs, then the XFL should be willing to go to 12 men. It works both ways. A merger still makes more sense then risking another failed league attempt.

I would hate them moving the Roughnecks out of Houston. We had an awesome fan base. The Texans are horrible, and I think the fan base would get even bigger from those fans that rooted for the Texans. San Antonio definitely needs a team. I would love a tri-city rivalry between Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. Road trips I would be more than happy to make.

It would be a huge mistake if the XFL chooses not to keep the Battlehawks in St. Louis. By far the most successful team in the league.

I was a season ticket holder to the Roughnecks. Enjoyed every second of it. Covid killed this league. The XFL was having decent ratings, the football was of decent quality and some of the things they implemented really helped the game move at a faster pace. The NFL would due well to take notes. Allowing a team to go for 1,2 and 3 points after a TD could really allow a team to come from behind. I did not know about the NFL sueing them over the logo. That’s lame, that logo was killer and you would have had to be borderline retarded to get it confused with the old Oilers logo.
